Also, what wilderness said. Most I've sold one of those mods the OP mentioned for is 20k. They've gotten more rare since then though.

25k is standard for Forget Me Nots. And with 19% available commonly for a few k each, there's no real disadvantage for players unable to afford the higher price of the rarer perfect inscription.
Once again, Supply and Demand.
I've IDed over 500 Unidents in the last week, and I've not found a single Forget Me Not. If I wanted one quickly, then 25k Vs. 500 IDs with no find is a very reasonable trade-off.

I use to think like this too... that paying for nicer things is stupid when you can craft a shiitty weapon and armor that are just as good as the expensive ones. but after 2 years of looking at shitty armor and weapons, you get tired of looking at them and you want nice things (especially when you have completed this game over and over again ,you will start caring more about looks/items more then the game play itself)
When you have 100s of ectos, why not spend it on nice things? if your poor, well thats different, but if your poor in this game... your doing something wrong

It's interesting how the things that make the game interesting to you, represent one of the worst GW additions to players that have been around since the launch.

Why would anyone consider a low req, functionaly perfect, rare skinned, and - generally considered - gorgeous skinned staff merch fodder?
I know this seems like pointless bickering (that's because it is!) but come on, people...

Question is, why not? If he can afford it, he can spend money however he wants. If its money that matters, why even go to a crafter and stick mods in it. A green is way cheaper than the 5k + mats crafters charge, and you could even get most items free from collectors. Think plenty of collectors that give out 20/20 items for example. Go farm 5 items and get item free.
But after 4 years, you should have unlocked all the skills you wanted, got plenty of armours and runed out your heroes. What do you do with your money then?
Sit around and buy sweets/alco/party points? Titles which other people may never notice? Not unless you're going for GWAMM. Or you could buy that big @ss BDS which is pretty hard to miss. Pretty much any giant weapon (even better if its animated) and not too common is pretty good to show off and people can see it.
Same with obby armour. Why spend all the ectos and shards on that when you could get a full suit of max (though unelite) armour for about 10k. Its for the show value. Thats human nature. And that there's not really much to spend money on other than weapons and armour in game.

Nothing, tra la la?
|
I've noticed a lot of mod/insc prices shooting up recently, well at least people trying to sell them high. No idea if they do.
But yeah, some people have played a lot/farm to insanity ( ), have hordes of money to burn and spend it on novelties. Personally I think a lot of the considered high end stuff looks pretty ugly (BDS, Frog Sceptor, Obby armor for most professions, etc.). There are some things I like though (Crystalline, Emerald Blade, Voltaic Spear, certain minis, etc). People like different things, so they'll buy what they like/think looks nice.

What else is there to spend money on once you have all armours you want.
And don't say titles.

The skin is very commonly found inscribable thanks to EotN, but a 20/20 uninscribable Platinum Staff is very rare. They don't drop often, drop only in Factions, frequently drop 19% and when they DO drop 20/20 the mod and req never match.

close...but ill put you out your misery, the staff is curses..platinum staffs come in primary attributes like soul reaping/divine favor etc...so a q9 perfect stat non insc will make a collectors eyeballs roll out...that's why items that are rare...are expensive as there is very few...i know of only 1 and they guy got banned for using a G11 keyboard. so now i know of 0 in game lol.
hope this clears up why items are called rares.

Exactly, Martin, I obviously meant rare skinned in the context of a perfect inherent version.
Also, Axeman, you're making some very trite points in the guise of some kind of cutting insight. If you're going to give the banter, at least back it up with some decently made points.
Awful attempt at deflection there, too. I'd suggest you stop trying.

Like what has been mentioned before, its supply and demand, plus the 'cool' factor. What better way to stick out among the mass of people than with shiney armor and rare and expensive weapons?

There's actually a simple reason for that. The dye system SUCKS. Many of my armors are dyed black or white, because any other color just looks disgusting (unless we're talking about a single dye, which is utterly boring...)!
They should sack the guy who invented dye combinations.

While this staff skin was exclusive to the Factions campaign, inscribable versions of Platinum Staves can now also be found in the Eye of the North expansion but these are linked to primary attributes only (with the exception being Mesmer staves linked to Inspiration Magic) as opposed to the ones from the Factions campaign which are available in many other attributes.

That is what I don't get. Black makes most of the armor look very bad. Or so dark you can't see anything of it so whats the point.
Same with Obby armor most of it looks eww. I go after some weapons but it is rather pointless when no one can see them in towns.

Agree. I've only foiund a few armours that dye nicely with more original combinations. Necro Fow, Ele Fow... most just end up looking sickeningly garish if you attempt to douse them in anything other than 8k ink.

And amen to this. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a nice regal gold or hot pink on 95% of the armors? Most colors just plain blow, so I rather pay to have black/white that way my armor looks halfway decent.
